The Deerfield Community School District strives to provide opportunities for all students to challenge themselves and to extend their learning throughout their educational careers in the district.
Elementary School: At the elementary school students participate in programs sponsored by the Greater Dane County Talented and Gifted Education Network such as Haiku, Yahara River Writers, Archimedes Math Meet, and Math 24. Students are also encouraged to compete in the Battle of the Books, to be a member of Student Council, and to participate in Mystery Box and 6th grade Book Club.
Middle School: At the Middle School level, qualified students may elect to take Wisconsin Center for Academically Talented Youth courses in place of literature classes, and writers enter the Yahara River Writers Project contest. Advanced math courses are offered, and there is a middle school Archimedes Math Meet and Math 24 Team, as well as a middle school Math League Competition. Musically-minded students participate in middle school Show Choir and Jazz Band.
High School: In high school, students are encouraged to take advantage of AP and advanced, "college preparatory" courses, as well as Early College Credit/Start College Now and Youth Apprenticeship. There are also many school clubs and opportunities for students to gain further experience in their interests: Academic Decathlon, Art Club, Math Team, Forensics, National Honor Society, Student Council, Jazz Band, Musical, Solo and Ensemble, United Against Hate and the Conference Art Show.
