Please refer to the Attendance section of the Student Handbook for more information.
Please help your child make the most of this school year. Research shows that children who are in school most of the time perform better on standardized tests and kids who are absent more often score lower. Students can copy notes or make up assignments, but they can never get back what is most important—the teachers’ explanations, the discussions, the questions, and the thinking that brings learning to life.
STUDENT ABSENCES: If your child will miss school, parents/guardians must notify the office by calling 764-5431 by 9:00 a.m. to report the absence. If you are requesting homework, please indicate that at the time of your call. Homework is available for pick-up at the main office before 3:30 p.m. A follow up written note or email to dhsatt@deerfield.k12.wi.us stating the reason for the absence is required the day upon your child’s return. Failure to send the note will result in the absence being unexcused.
For a pre-arranged absence, please send a note with your child or an email to dhsatt@deerfield.k12.wi.us at least one day prior to the absence. Your child will receive a pre-arranged absence slip to take to their teachers to get their homework for the time missed.
NOTES FROM PARENTS/GUARDIANS: Students bringing notes from a parent/guardian (e.g., attendance, appointments, pre-arranged absences, vacations, etc.) should go directly to the office. All students must sign in/out at the attendance binder in the main office. Parents/guardians do not need to come into the building as long as the student has provided the office with a signed note stating the time and reason for the early departure/late arrival.
You can support and promote positive attendance by:
• Talking with your child about the importance of attending school regularly
• Avoid scheduling family trips or appointments during school hours whenever possible
• Helping your child stay healthy by eating nutritious food, getting enough sleep and exercising
• Not accepting excuses for why your child “must” miss or be late for school
Your child’s success in school depends on a solid, consistent education—one that can only be acquired through regular school attendance. Thank you for your efforts to support your child and a productive learning environment!
