HS Science, NHS Advisor Email Phone: 608.764.5431 Welcome to the Physical Sciences website at Deerfield High School!
My name is Bob Wild and I started my teaching career at Yorkville HS back in 1995. Since this time I have taught all grade levels from grades 6 through 12. I have experience teaching in both McFarland and Ithaca school districts in Wisconsin. Furthermore, I have taught at some of the major international schools in Istanbul, Moscow, Tashkent, and Budapest. My specialty fields are Chemistry and Biology but I am also well versed in the general physical sciences.
I am passionate about science education and view it as a subject of the utmost importance. Science is such an important subject because it can engage students with the world around them in so many exciting ways. A love of science encourages an awareness of how the universe operates, while an understanding of science provides the background information necessary to make responsible choices. According to the NSTA position report on middle level science education, students lacking interest and enthusiasm in science by grade seven may never gain this intrinsic love and curiosity for science. This puts a special responsibility on middle level science educators to provide an enriching supportive environment that fosters interest while keeping in mind the very diverse physical, emotional, and cognitive needs of this unique group of students.
High school science educators teaching a specialized field of science need have a large depth of knowledge in and around the subject. In addition, these educators need to possess a deep understanding of how students learn, where common misconceptions in the subject can take place, and how to teach for effective conceptual change.
I am very excited to be teaching at Deerfield HS given its reputation for excellent community support and engaged students. The size of the school both provides opportunities to collaborate with colleagues as well as develop a highly effective curriculum that meets student needs.
I look forward to working with our students and helping them to attain their goals this year!
